Crochet Beanie Hat

I finally found an easy way to crochet a hat - it has taken me some time to find a pattern that is easy to follow and doesn't use every type of stitch known to mankind.  I have altered this pattern slightly from the one I found and I've tried to make the instructions easy to read.  Its a beanie hat which is very versatile.

The pattern below is for adult size and in UK crochet terms.  You will need to know how to do a magic circle, double crochet and treble crochet to complete this pattern.  Also, you will be using 2 strands of yarn together as one - so you will need 2 balls of double knit yarn for this pattern.

You will need:

2 balls of DK yarn (you will use these together as 1 yarn so you can mix and match colours if you like)
6.5mm hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Abbreviations:

Ch - chain
TR - treble crochet stitch
DC - double crochet stitch
St - stitch
Sl St - slip stitch

To start make sure that both ends of the 2 strands of yarn are together so you can use them as 1 strand.

Row 1 - Make a magic circle then Ch 2.  TR 8 times into the circle then join first and last St with Sl St.  You can pull the magic circle closed now which should leave you with a long tail

Row 2 - Ch 2, 2 TR into each St then join first and last St with Sl St (you should have 16 Sts in this round)

Row 3 - Ch 2, TR in first St, 2 TR in next St - repeat this around. Join with Sl St (24 Sts in this round)

Row 4 - Ch 2, TR in first 2 Sts, 2 TR in next St - repeat this around.  Join with Sl St (32 Sts in this round)

Row 5 - Ch 2, TR in first 3 Sts, 2 TR in next St - repeat this around.  Join with Sl St (40 Sts in this round)

Row 6 - Ch 2, TR in first 4 Sts, 2 TR in next St - repeat this around.  Join with Sl St (48 Sts in this round)

Rows 7-13 - Ch 2, TR in each St around.  Join with Sl St (48 Sts)

Row 14 - Ch 1, DC in each St around.  Join with Sl St (48 Sts)

To finish, cut the yarn leaving enough to sew in the loose end.  Make sure that the magic circle is pulled tight and tie off to secure.

And voila...you should have a beanie hat.  In the photo, I wanted to show what it looks like if you use 2 balls of the same colour yarn (mustard colour hat) and when you use 2 different colours (multiple blue hat) just so you can see the pattern and differences.

I hope that this was easy enough to follow, if you have any questions - please let me know.
