Square Makes - Bags
I've been working on a number of different style bags recently - mostly crochet but the style could easily be adapted to be knitted. All of the following bags are made from a square/rectangle and the shapes are given by how they are sewn together. Some of these ideas have been inspired by posts I have seen on Pinterest.
This multicoloured bag is made from 1 granny square. My daughter loved the colour of the yarn so it had to be used for her Christmas present! I added a border to the edge of the square (yellow) to define the shape and also added a 'snap' button for closure. The strap is made from double crochet.
This bag is made from 1 rectangle and each end is then folded over to make a triangle. This could be done in either knit or crochet and in any size - the basis is whichever width you choose, the length of the rectangle needs to be 3 times the width - so my bag was 6 inches wide by 18 inches long. Again, the strap was made with double crochet. This was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest.
Granny's tote bag - quite simply 2 large granny squares sewn together with 2 straps added. I like how the colours worked together on this. This could be made in any size.
Now, this has to be one of my favourite makes this year - 1 bag, 2 ways!!! I scrolled past something like this on Pinterest then after some reflection realised what I'd seen. It is made from 3 granny squares sewn together with a fastening 'strap' added in the centre and a double crochet strap added. This could be easily knitted too or crocheted in any stitch as it is made from 3 squares. As you can see from the photos, the bag works in 2 different ways with the sides up or down. On these, I decided that a button didn't look right so I trawled through my beads instead. The purple bag is now going to my mum for Christmas.
Phone bag - from my last post. This is a very versatile design that can be either knit or crochet and done in any stitch or size. My template is for a phone bag and this does fit a phone with a leather wrap around cover on.
