Charity Makes

It's been a few weeks since I last posted as I have been struggling with health which in turn has taken an affect on my ability to think of what to make next.  A friend of mine recently pointed me in the direction of a local charity that was crying out for some handmade knitted/crochet items.  So I picked up my needles and hook and got to work.

The local charity put out an appeal for tiny baby items.  I have a very basic knitting pattern for hats so that's what I started with.  Once I had knitted one hat, I measured it so I could then adapt the pattern for crochet.

Knitting:  Using DK yarn, 4mm needles - cast on 30 stitches and garter stitch knit for 94 rows.

Crochet: Using DK yarn, 3.5mm hook - chain 5.5 inches and double crochet for 9 inches

Both are finished in the same way - leave a long tail when finishing to sew up the seam to make a tube and then 'cinch' the top of the tube and pull the yarn tight.  Fasten off and turn right way around.

If you are wanting to make something to either keep yourself busy or want to be helpful, ask around to see if there are any local charities/groups that require any items.  There is always the option that you could make items and then simply donate them to your local charity shop but just bear in mind the time of year when you donate items - for example, are they in need of winter hats during the summer months?

Some items that would be useful for donations include:

Hats
Scarves
Blankets
Baby items

There is always someone in need and if I can make something that will help just one person in any way shape or form, I'm going to do it.
