Crochet Slipper Socks
For my sister's birthday this year, I wanted to give her something of comfort as her and I both suffer from fibromyalgia and are always happy for a ounce of relief! I found that when I tried out making slippers before - the sizing was off or it never looked like the photos shown on the original post.
This is my adapted version and the photos included are genuine and what my sister will be receiving!
Whilst the following may look a bit daunting at first glance, if you can double crochet (UK term) and count stitches as you go then you can make these.
What you need
2 x DK yarn (to be used together to make 1 thicker strand)
7mm hook
Pen and paper to keep a track of rows and stitches (if you need it)
Method
I have included the amount of stitches for UK shoes sizes next to each row ().
Sizes available are:
4-5
5-6
6-7
7-8
8-9
My example is made in size 7-8.
Chain 34 stitches.
Row 1: DC in second ch from hook, continue to end (33)
Rows 2-7: Ch 1, DC in each stitch across (33)
Row 8: Ch 1, DC in next 22 stitches (22)
Rows 9-13: Ch 1, DC in each stitch across (22)
Row 14: Ch 1, DC in next 22 stitches then Ch 12 (to make back up to original stitch count) (33)
Row 15: DC in second ch from hook, continue to end (33)
Rows 16-21: Ch 1, DC in each stitch across (33)
Fasten off.
Fold in half length ways and sew up seams (see photo).
Add 1 row of DC around the foot opening.
Use the above method for all sizes however adjust the number of stitches accordingly as follows:
Size 4-5 - Ch 28, reduce row 8 to 16 stitches
Size 5-6 - Ch 30, reduce row 8 to 18 stitches
Size 6-7 - Ch 32, reduce row 8 to 20 stitches
Size 7-8 - Ch 34, reduce row 8 to 22 stitches
Size 8-9 - Ch 36, reduce row 8 to 24 stitches
To go along with these slipper socks, I have crocheted a tea bag pouch using double crochet stitches and a few rows with decreases. There will also be a handmade candle to go with this to complete the gift.
