Easter Crochet - Gone Wrong Ish
So, I wanted to create some little favours/gifts for my Brownies and Guides that were Easter related. I did my usual search for ideas through Google and Pinterest and found 3 "easy" projects.
The first is something that I have done before as knitting but not crochet. The bunnies are made from 1 square, if you search for knitted toys anywhere - this is sure to come up.
I am constantly seeing amigurumi on every social media platform and I thought that the bunny might be a good easy start. My stumbling block has always been how the finished stitching looks despite the instructions saying that it's just "single crochet with increases and decreases."
This time I searched for instructions on how to get the "amigurumi look" and it turns out that...I still can't do it. Take a look at the photos, I've marked what I mean but how on earth do you create crochet that doesn't show the row lines?
Before I get comments saying I didn't do it right, the purple bunny is done with yarn under hook and no chain at the beginning of each row. The yellow bunny is done with yarn over hook crochet which is "normal" to me.
For both bunnies - I used a smaller hook than normal for the yarn and a tension ring (I always use this).
What am I missing? I'm sure it's an obvious oversight and I will probably kick myself when I realise what I've done wrong. It's just so frustrating!
Anyway, I found 2 egg patterns too. They both looked simple enough. Have a little giggle at these "eggs"...
I guess what I'm trying to say in this post is...sometimes the best laid out plans do not work out. I'm annoyed with the bunnies more than anything but will it stop me from knitting or crochet? No, nope, nada, not going to happen. I'll happily carry on with my imperfect ways and show the world that it's ok to make mistakes no matter how big or small.
And the Brownies and Guides winners can fight over the wonky bunnies.
