Crochet Bandana

The last item that I've made for my daughter's summer wardrobe is this crochet bandana.  She usually gets very hot and sweaty under a hat when the sun is beaming down on her head so I made this as an alternative.

This is designed using the granny stitch pattern in rows and uses 2 chains on both of the wider ends for tying in place.

To make this, you will need:

DK yarn - preferably cotton and a light colour to reflect the sun
3.5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Tension ring (optional)

To start, you can either make a magic ring or use a slip knot.

Next, chain 3 into the slip knot/MR

Then, make 2 x treble stitches (UK term) into slip knot/MR

Chain 3, then continue as you would normally with a granny square (3 x treble into each space).

I completed 22 rows in total, including the first row with the slip knot.  Then once I was happy that it would fit around my head, I added 2 chains onto either side of wider edge for tying it in place.

As this is made using cotton yarn, it's light and airy yet it will cover your head to shield you from the sun.

It looks really neat and quaint once completed too.
