Crochet Granny Square Crop Top
Continuing the summer wardrobe update for my daughter, I created this granny square crop top using cotton yarn.
If you can make granny squares, you can make this top. The shaping comes from how you sew the squares together.
To make this style of crop top, you will need:
3mm crochet hook
200g of cotton yarn (minimum)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Tension ring (optional)
Each granny square will have a total of 8 rounds (rows) - mine show 7 white rounds and 1 coloured round. To make a small size crop top, you will need 8 completed granny squares.
Once you have all 8 squares, arrange them as the above photo. However, if you are wanting a larger size crop top, see the photo below to show how to arrange the squares accordingly.
Now, the next thing you will need to do is to sew the squares together - or if you are confident enough, you could crochet them together.
Once they are sewn together, you can create your straps. My straps were made with white cotton yarn using treble stitch (UK term) to be approx. 2 inches wide. Attach these to the front and back of the top.
It's actually quite quick to make compared to other patterns for a crop top and it's not heavy when completed. I chose cotton yarn for this as it's a thicker stitch pattern, however you may want to wear something underneath this for obvious reasons!
